siNgAra utsava
Time : 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm
Venue : Singapore Polytechnic Auditorium
Another wonderful evening, “siNgAra utsava” organized by Kannada Sangha Singapore on May 1st 2010 at Singapore Polytechnic Auditorium, Dover Road.
“siNgAra utsava” an event with 14 various kinds of programs – Drama, Dance, Bharathanatya, talent show by children, group songs, karaoke competition……., was really a utsava, showcasing the talent of Singapore Kannadigas.

The program began with an invocation song “Sangeetha Geerrvani Geetha pani“   by Smt.Shoba Raghu followed by the welcome address by Shri. Ramadas BK, Vice-President of the Sangha.

The program kicked off with a unique talent show by children wherein children could do anything of their choice to show their talents in two minutes. It was a wonderful show wherein nearly 20 kids of age group between 4 years to 12 years showed their talent.
This was followed by an 11 member Children Orchestra directed by Smt. Vinutha Bhat.

Shri. Gururajachar entertained the audience with his ‘’Haasya Kavya Vachana’’.

This was followed by a group song by children Chelvi Chelvi Yendu directed by Smt.Shoba Raghu,  a group dance by children “Moodal Kungalkeri” and  a folk dance 'Hoganelu Jaturege' both choreographed by Smt. Sadhana Rajaram.

Then it was the youngsters with a group song 'Jogadha Siri Belakinalli'.
Then Kum. Ramyasri Rajesh sang and danced to song 'Kuntre Nintre Avna Dhyana'.
It was followed by a great entertaining dance 'San Sananare' by Smt. Vinitha Aithal and Kum. Sharanya Jamadagni. This was choreographed by Smt. Vinitha Aithal.

Shri . Guruprakash gave a brief introduction of the evening’s chief guest, Dr. Byrappa Venkatesh. Dr. Venkatesh gave a brief speech on the gene research he is involved in and its benefits. Hopefully some of the students and children are inspired by his speech and take up research as a career.

The stage was set with Lord Shiva appearing on the screen for the wonderful Bharathanatya performance by Kum. Meghnaa Hebbar for a Sanskrit song 'BhoShambho'.

Then it was the Karaoke competition, six participants showed their talent with melodious Kannada songs. Chief guest Dr. Venkatesh distributed the prizes for the three winners –
 (1) Smt. Ramya SY, (2) Smt. Vinutha Bhat & (3) Smt. Rekha Sudarshan.

This was followed by a grand performance of Bharathanatya by Smt. Deepti, who has given around 200 programmes in India and USA at major dance and cultural festivals. Her performance here was split into 3 acts – 'Pushpanjali, Krithi and Thillana'.

A group song 'Kadhana Vatsava Hari Kadhana' was sung by the female members of the Sangha.

Then it was time for the major attraction of the evening, a drama 'Koriappana Koriograhy', based on a humorous play written by well known writer, Shri. Dundiraj. The drama mocks at the self proclaimed writers & poets and how they go after name & fame. The drama is witty and has usual pun that Shri. Dundiraj is known for. Centre of action in the drama is Koriappa, the writer, whose literary knowledge is undoubtedly dubious & questionable. The comedy surrounding his "first interview" to a local press is worth watching for the humorous conversation between the journalist & Koriappa. Drama ends with a happy note.  The drama was directed by Shri. Girish Jamadagni.

With that ended an evening of entertainment.

Shri. Srinivas KJ, Sangha’s Secretary presented the vote of thanks to all those who made this evening a grand success.
The whole program was conducted most efficiently by Smt. Archana Prakash and Shri. Mohan BV.

Kannada Sangha thanks the event sponsors - Spice of India Restaurant and Divine Park, Saligrama.  We hope the audience would have enjoyed the New Menu at our sponsor’s stall  in the premises – rave unde, patrode, Jackfruit mulka, badam puri, hara bara juice apart from the regulars – maddur vade, samosa, besibele bath, mosaranna…..

Coordinating and organizing this nearly five hour’s program with 14 different events and with around 100 Singapore Kannadigas showcasing their talent both on and off the stage was a challenge in itself and we have tried to keep the flow of the program in such a way that audience didn’t feel it as a long event.

We would like to thank all the audience numbering around 350 for the huge support and encouragement to all participants by staying right till the end of the program. We hope you, your family & friends have enjoyed the program. Kannada Sangha (Singapore) is committed to give its members quality programs at affordable price. If you have participated or attended the program, we would like to have your feedback on what you felt - either accolades or areas of improvement. We heartily welcome your feedback & suggestions.
