On the occasion of New Year – “Ugadhi”, Kannada Sangha (Singapore) had organised “boMbat saNje” - a unique entertainment mix of Magic, Humour, Ventriloquism (mAtanADuva goMbe) & Parodies (aNaku hADugaLu) on Sunday 28th March 2010 at Singapore Polytechnic Auditorium, Dover.
Kum. Indushree and Shri. Ramanath were the guest artists of the evening.
The program started off at around 5:30pm with a prayer “viswadhipathe vidyadhipathe” by Kum. Sudiksha Shanbhag.
Sangha’s president Dr. Vijaya Kumar welcomed the audience and the artists. Smt. Rashmi Udaykumar– Sangha’s committee member gave a brief introduction of the guest artists of the evening.
Kum. Srilekha and Kum. Jyotsna, the emcees for the evening ably compered the whole program.
Shri. Ramanath started with his aNaku hADugaLu – much to the entertainment of the audience. Through his remixed songs, he made nAnku on various topics - our society, the whole community, culture, attitude of Kannadiga’s towards their language and about his own profession as civil contractor.
This was followed by the magic show by Kum Indushree, first girl magician of Karnataka and Limca Book of Records holder. Her jaadu talent drew applause from everyone – children & adults alike. She invited few kids and adults on to the stage and got them involved in her magic show.
boMbat SaNje continued with much awaited and most entertaining part of the program for the day - Ventriloquism (mAtanADuva goMbe) performance from Kum. Indushree. The audience was totally mesmerized when “Dinku” the puppet (gombe) started of the conversing with Indushree and also answered all the questions of audience instantly with wit and humour. This program was so interactive and enjoyable that the kids came and sat on the floor, in the front of the stage to personally interview Dinku! Those who attended will cherish this humorous conversation for a long time. boMbat SaNje was really……BOMBAT!!!!!
Shri. Jagadish CV and Dr. Venkatesh Byrappa facilitated the guest artists.
A lucky draw sponsored by Jap Air Tours Pte Ltd., was conducted for a prize worth of SGD200/-, Prof. A.N. Rao the Chief Guest of the evening picked the winner and gave away the prize.
The Annual Singara Badminton tournament – “Image Cup 2009” awards distribution function was conducted by Shri. Vishwas SD – Sangha’s committee member. Dr. Rajashree Murthy and Shri. Rajan Nagarajan, Directors of Image Internationals (Singapore) gave away the prizes to the awardees.
Shri Gopal VN, Sangha’s committee member presented the vote of thanks to all those who made this evening a grand success.
Yugadi special sweet – Holige was distributed to all the attendees at the end of the program. Kannada Sangha’s calendar for the year 2010 was also distributed to its members.
