On 04-Apr-2009, Kannada Sangha (Singapore) had organized an Arivu programme - “Health Awareness” seminar to Sangha Members, in association with S P Jain Center of Management and Singapore Health Services (SingHealth). The programme started at around 6.15PM. After the introduction by Prof. Suresh Advani, Head of Campus for S P Jain Centre Of Management, Prof. Anantharaman from SingHealth provided Overview of various centres and services by SingHealth. He continued with the first topic of the day – “How to identify early and prevent loss of life in the event of cardiac arrest?” with special emphasis on the significance of CPR. He covered various aspects like what is a cardiac arrest, the risk factors, the symptoms, what to do in the event of heart attack and the training required in identifying and handling cardiac arrests.
After this, Dr Guo Chang Meng, Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery, S’pore General Hospital presented yet another useful topic “Standing Tall – In Style”, addressing various causes for neck-ache and back-ache and how to prevent them. With a graph, he explained the various right postures and the wrong postures for a healthy back/neck and also gave an insight into the various minimum invasive surgery options available today in singapore related to back/neck.
Sri Ramadas presented the vote of thanks with tokens of appreciation to the speakers on behalf of Kannada Sangha. The evening concluded with a dinner, sponsored by SingHealth. Even though the audience was much smaller in number, the session was so interactive that the stipulated Question and Answer duration was not sufficient and it continued during dinner session!
