It is a well known fact that many great exponents of Hindustani Music hail from Karnataka. Kannada Sangha (Singapore) scored a first on many fronts on 1st March 2008, by hosting a Hindustani Musical recital by Pt. Madhava Gudi and party at the Singapore Polytechnic auditorium. It was also on this day that Kannada Sangha presented a programme in collaboration with SOORYA - a non-profit, non-commercial voluntary organization which aims at dissemination of the rich Indian culture and achieving 'integration through culture' – the first of many such joint efforts.

The evening started off with an invocation which was in a different style altogether, by Chi. Prajwal on the Flute. Kannada Sangha President, Shri. B. K. Ramadas welcomed the performing artistes, chief guest Naada Nidhi Smt. Bhagya Murthy and the gathered music enthusiasts.

This was followed by an enchanting Hindustani vocal recital in the fabled Kirana Gharana tradition by Pt. Madhava Gudi. The vocal support was provided by Pt. Prasanna Gudi, an accomplished singer himself. The father-son duo was ably supported by well acclaimed Shri. Lazar T. Sebastine on Harmonium, Shri. Sanjeev Saxena on Tabla, Smt. Nilam Sharma and Shri. Arun Gunari on Tanpuras. The fact that music transcends languages was clearly demonstrated with Pt. Madhava Gudi presenting a medley of songs in Kannada, Marathi, Hindi and Telugu.

Smt. Bhagya Murthy, a leading vocalist in Singapore and the chief guest for the event honoured the artistes. Dr. Chitra - president of Soorya, Singapore honoured the chief guest. Shri. Krishnakumar, Honourary Secretary of Soorya, Singapore presented the vote of thanks. Smt. Sandhya Chandrashekhar and Smt. Vinitha Aithal compered for this event.

More than 175 music lovers from different parts of Singapore enjoyed this musical concert. The audience had an opportunity to buy DVDs of Pt. Madhava Gudi. In addition, Kannada Sangha distributed free Calendar 2008 and participation gifts to children for Gita Jayanthi 2008 competitions.
